  1. Where do you find your design inspiration?
I find inspiration in everyday objects and places, art, geometry, history, product design and fashion. Drawing unexpected connections across these areas helps me create unique, highly personalized solutions for my clients.
  2. Favorite part of life/what makes you happy?
I love painting with my son and daughter. Their minds are uninhibited and they're not afraid to take risks. I strive to think more like they do. Picasso said, "It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."
  3. Side pursuits / hobbies you enjoy that relate to your craft (or not!)
I'm always trying new creative endeavors to keep my artistic side nimble. Right now I love letterpress, printmaking, and take a weekly pottery class.
  4. You're all creative and offer a unique perspective on what makes a space work and flow . What would you share as your best tip -- or general words of wisdom?
Interior design is about creating experiences. The best designs connect people to place, engaging all of their senses in a way that is memorable, not just decorative.
  5. Favorite field trip that feeds into your sense of design?
MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in NY
  6. What's your favorite room in the house?
My dining room. It houses some of my modern favorites and vintage treasures (including Herman Miller dining chairs).

  1. Where do you find your design inspiration from?
I find design inspiration from traveling. London, Chicago & Las Vegas are my current obsessions.
  2. What’s your favorite room in the house?
My library. Lots of books and trinkets from adventures of the past and possibilities for the future.
  3. What’s in your iTunes/Spotify/CD player?
Radiohead, Magnetic Fields, and occasionally underground London rap battles.
  4. What would you share as your best tip – or general words of wisdom?
You are not designing a space as much as you are an experience. What can you do along that linear path to create a positive lasting impression?
  5. Favorite field trip that feeds into your sense of design?
I lived and worked in Manhattan for several years. I always feel a design buzz when I am there.

  1. Where do you find your design inspiration?
Urban life, travel and historical novels, autobiographies, biographies.
  2. Mentor in design or the world at large? Why?
The first architect I worked with out of school. He had travelled the world, lived and practiced in different countries. His experiences inspired me to move out of the comfort of my homeland and pursue architecture and design abroad.
  3. Favorite part of life/what makes you happy?
Travelling; showing the world to my son and seeing the world from his perspective.
  4. What's in your iTunes/Spotify/CD player?
Simon and Garfunkel, Adele, Pink Floyd, Queen, Jim Reeves, Zakir Hussain, Akhtari Begum, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Suchitra Mitra, Arijit Singh
  5. Side pursuits / hobbies you enjoy that relate to your craft (or not!)
Reading and creative writing (short stories)
  6. You're all creative and offer a unique perspective on what makes a space work and flow . What would you share as your best tip -- or general words of wisdom?
The Girl Guides motto, "Be prepared," applies almost always to design.
  7. Favorite field trip that feeds into your sense of design?
    Chicago

  1. Favorite part of life / what makes you happy?
My recipe for a good time: either surrounding myself with the people I love or binge-watching TV with my two calico cats.
  2. Side pursuits / hobbies you enjoy that relate to your craft (or not):
Watching live-theater, thrifting: shopping for deals and giving old things new life, dancing, renovating my house, crafting and planning events / parties.
  3. Where do you find your design inspiration?
Travel. I love seeing first-hand how others live and how their culture shines through hospitality and design. From sleeping in a treehouse in the jungle to sleeping in a historic castle, I’ve brought all of my experiences, interactions and aesthetics home forever.
  4. What’s in your iTunes / Spotify / CD player?
When I’m not belting out my favorite showtunes, I'm listening to anything I can sing and dance to, especially Queen, Abba, the Spice Girls, Michael Bublé, boy bands from The Beatles to One Direction and everyone in between, and anything from the 90s (especially ska, grunge and alternative rock)!
  5. Favorite field trip that feeds into your sense of design?
Walt Disney World - Inspiration flows at a place who’s artfully managed to marry "grown-up" concepts such as structure, organization and planning with imagination, color and magic, all seemingly "child-like" points-of-view. And this corporate machine manages to do it, all while staying true to their brand and holding the title of "happiest place on Earth". Mimicking their style by balancing both hemispheres of my mind, while always adding that "little bit of pixie dust" is something I aspire to follow every day.
  6. Who inspires you?
Pioneers, out-of-the-box thinkers, underdogs and folks who have found their true passions in life.

Sarah Gorden

Interior Designer

  • Over 15 years of experience in the Architecture and Design field. Seven years in the Manufacturing sector, prior to that, as a Project Manager.
  • Joined CenterPoint Design/Benco Dental in 2017
  • Earned Congressional Community Service Award for Community Activism from U.S. Congress.
  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and Master's degree in Interior Architecture.
  • Non-Adjunct Lecturer at the college level for related degree courses in Design.
  1. Where do you find your design inspiration?
Literally, everywhere! Inspiration is wherever you look for it, even in the less obvious places. Nature is, most certainly, the easiest place for me to find it. I am a big advocate of Biophilia; which, very simply, is bringing the outdoors into the built environment.
  2. Mentor in design or the world at large? Why?
William McDonough, a modern-day architect, is one of the early pioneers of what is now known as the "Green" movement in the industry. His philosophy in looking at sustainability and the useful lifecycle of materials is a design practice that I have personally used to challenge myself and the way I create.
  3. Favorite part of life/what makes you happy?
My grandkids, my furry mammals (pets), a good book/coffee/rainy day, and time with close friends. I really am a homebody.
  4. What’s in your iTunes/Spotify/CD player?
Nature sounds, R&B, a bit of 80’s/90’s rock, and a good mix of most every type of music. Recently, I was reintroduced to (modern) Country music and I am loving it!
  5. Side pursuits / hobbies you enjoy that relate to your craft (or not!)
I am an emerging abstract artist. My favorite mediums are acrylic and mixed media. I am also trying to improve my green thumb!
  6. You're all creative and offer a unique perspective on what makes a space work and flow. What would you share as your best tip -- or general words of wisdom?
Those age-old sayings: "Keep it simple." And “Listen to your ‘Gut’.” Following your inner compass and not overthinking something is usually the pathway to a successful outcome for an interior.
  7. Favorite field trip that feeds into your sense of design?
Trips to nature sites/forestry/ranches, the Getty Museum in LA, trade shows (oddly enough), architecture tours and visits to the coast.
  8. What's your favorite room in the house?
An art studio or maker space. It is a true privilege if you are able to have one! But all of the rooms work for me as they all serve a vital function for living life.

  3. What’s your favorite room in the house?
My favorite room in the house is my bedroom. It is my space to unwind and relax after a long day and maybe watch a little Netflix or read a book before its time to go to bed.

Currently my favorites include: Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Phil Whickham, and Carrie Underwood.
  5. Favorite field trip that feeds into your sense of design?

My favorite place in our home changes constantly. I always have a project that I want to accomplish, so my favorite space is usually the one that I just finished renovating, rearranging, or organizing.
  5. You’re all creative and offer a unique perspective on what makes a space work and flow. What would you share as your best tip – of general words of wisdom?
Spaces are, of course, about the function that they perform, but that space becomes so much more when that space is unique to you. There is a real beauty in seeing someone’s personality reflected in a space, and, in turn, that space feels better and productivity increases.
