Speaker Bio:

Richard H. Nagelberg, DDS is a general dentist in suburban Philadelphia. He has international practice experience, having worked in Newfoundland, Canada and participated in relief trips to Thailand and Cambodia. He has served on many advisory boards and as a consultant to a variety of companies and organizations and as a columnist for Dental Economics magazine. In addition to clinical practice Dr. Nagelberg is Director of Medical Affairs for OraPharma Inc., a division of Bausch Health Pharma.

Course Description:

This educational course will discuss the development of periodontal disease on a cellular and clinical level including emerging concepts of biofilm toxicity. A discussion of the mechanism of bacterial invasion of the gingival epithelial cells will be included. The imperative for early disease diagnosis and intervention will be covered including the rationale from an immunological perspective. Up to date research on the impact of periodontal health on systemic health will be included. The program concludes with a discussion of the clinical implications of the concepts discussed.
