Growth and Development Through the Eyes of a Pediatric Dentist: Feed, Speak, Breathe, Smile

February 25, 2021

Speaker:

Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi

Speaker Bio:

Holistic team comprehensive care of the growing child is the cornerstone of work Dr. Anamelechi does as Teaching Faculty at Children’s National Hospital, Medstar Georgetown Hospital, Georgetown Law and as owner in her Private Practice, Children’s Choice Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. Her national and international work has focused on children with craniofacial abnormalities, tethered tissues and their link to poor oral health, and health equity for children with special challenges.

Course Description:

Having a team of dental and non dental colleagues is essential in the comprehensive care of a child in helping through each phase of their growth and development. The earlier feeding, speech, and respiratory concerns are recognized and addressed, the better the child has for outcomes of optimal oral health. Adhering to the AAPD recommendations of an age 1 first visit and the AAO recommendations of an age 7 growth and development evaluation, we are also able to form relationships which allow appropriate treatment in partnership at the most appropriate time.

Course Objectives:

  • Discuss the comprehensive evaluation of a child beyond the teeth in growth and development
  • Discuss the pediatric dentist’s role in the pre orthodontic phase
  • Provide a toolkit for the dental team evaluation and treatment of the growing child
